Bj-k: Ankole Cattle & Conservation Ranch

A Day at the Cattle Breeder

Bj-k: Ankole Ancestral Cattle Conservation Ranch is private and community Ankole breed conservation initiative. We are so much more than a Cattle Breeder - we are a meeting place for the ancient Ankole cattle breed lovers where we  share learning experiences in the commercialisation of native African cattle species' as a community  livelihood activity. At Bj-k we also focus on the long-term conservation of the fast disappearing Ankole cattle breed aka Watusi cattle in some parts of the world.
We have developed partnerships with Tourism experts to develop a Business Agri Tourism model at the ranch. Through shared your arrangements we organise Agri Tourism trips to the ranch. This is  organised for a wide range of visitors ranging from student groups, cattle  farming groups, tourists, groupy trips to the ranch in Ssembabule to  learn about native farming practices and also take part in outdoor cattle  excursions throughout the day.
Visitors to the ranch are taken for organised group tours to engage in their desired ranching and conservation activity; grazing, milking, ghee making, native farming.

This is a traditional milk conservation utensil said to last for more than 100 years when we'll preserved. The traditional tool was key in life of pastrolist using it for storage of home  made traditional classic yoghurt, milk and ghee since the early centuries.
The utensil is traced back to the African heritage  folk story of the 3 son's of Ruhanga who were given a task of keeping their allotted equal shares of milk for an overnight. Ruhanga intended to name his three sons basing on who had carried his milk guord full till morning without sleeping that night.
